  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, or specifications to determine the layout, dimensions, and type of materials required.
  • Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning, cutting, grinding, and shaping materials to ensure proper welds.
  • Align parts or workpieces to be welded according to specifications, using jigs, clamps, and other tools.
  • Select and adjust the appropriate welding equipment settings, including voltage, current, and wire feed, to match materials and specifications.
  • Inspect completed welds for defects, ensuring welds are free of cracks, porosity, or other flaws.
  • Test welds to ensure strength and durability, following established quality standards and procedures.
  • Perform post-weld clean-up, removing slag, spatter, and excess material to produce smooth, clean welds.
  • Maintain welding machines and equipment, ensuring proper functioning and safety.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of welding tools and machinery, making minor repairs as needed.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmets, gloves, and eye protection.
  • Maintain awareness of workplace hazards, such as sparks, fumes, and hot surfaces, and take necessary precautions.
  • Comply with local, national, and company welding standards and regulations.
  • Work closely with other team members, such as fabricators, engineers, and supervisors, to complete projects on time and to specifications.
  • Communicate any issues related to material defects, equipment malfunctions, or project timelines to the supervisor.
  • Assist with other fabrication or metal work tasks as needed, such as cutting or bending metal.
