Job Description

  • The Mason is responsible for constructing, repairing, and maintaining structures made from bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and other materials. This role involves reading blueprints, mixing materials, and ensuring all masonry work meets high-quality standards and safety regulations. The Mason plays a vital role in the construction and maintenance of buildings, walls, walkways, and other structures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lay bricks, concrete blocks, stones, or other materials to construct or repair structures such as walls, foundations, chimneys, and pavements.
  • Follow blueprints or detailed instructions to lay out the pattern and design of masonry projects.
  • Shape or cut materials to fit, using hand or power tools.
  • Prepare mortar or concrete by mixing ingredients to the proper consistency.
  • Apply mortar to adhere bricks, stones, or blocks in place and ensure proper alignment and spacing between units.
  • Smooth, finish, and clean the completed masonry structures.
  • Inspect existing structures for cracks, breaks, or damage, and repair or replace as necessary.
  • Apply finishing techniques, such as plastering or cement smoothing, to ensure a neat and durable finish.
  • Waterproof or seal masonry surfaces to prevent damage from weather and environmental elements.
  • Set up scaffolding, ladders, or other support structures to access work areas safely.
  • Prepare construction sites by clearing debris, leveling ground, and setting base materials.
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) on-site.
  • Work closely with other construction professionals, such as carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and site supervisors, to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Coordinate with the project manager or foreman to ensure masonry work is completed according to schedule and specifications.
  • Monitor and manage materials, ensuring the correct types and quantities of bricks, stones, or blocks are available.
  • Maintain and care for masonry tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, ensuring accuracy.
  • Align structures and blocks for accurate construction, using plumb lines, levels, and other alignment tools.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a mason or in a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of masonry techniques, tools, and materials.
  • Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and building plans.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and construction codes.
