The Carpenter is responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures made from wood, plywood, and other materials. This role involves reading blueprints, measuring and cutting materials, and ensuring that all carpentry work is completed to a high standard of quality and safety. The Carpenter plays a key role in constructing buildings, cabinetry, frameworks, and other wooden structures.
Key Responsibilities
Build, install, and repair structures such as frameworks, doorframes, partitions, rafters, staircases, cabinets, and furniture.
Follow blueprints, building plans, and sketches to meet the client’s specifications.
Measure, cut, shape, and assemble wood, plywood, drywall, and other materials using hand and power tools.
Inspect work sites and study construction plans to determine dimensions, materials, and installation processes.
Prepare layout by measuring and marking cutting lines on materials using appropriate tools.
Ensure that all required materials are available and maintain proper stock levels for ongoing projects.
Build foundations, install floor joists, and lay subflooring.
Erect and assemble wall, roof, and ceiling frames for buildings.
Install doors, windows, and other structural components in residential and commercial projects.
Install decorative elements, including moldings, trims, and paneling, to enhance the aesthetic of structures.
Repair and refurbish old or damaged wooden structures and furnishings.
Apply finishes, including varnishes, paints, or stains, to protect and beautify woodwork.
Perform regular inspections of existing woodwork, identifying and fixing defects or damages.
Repair or replace faulty or broken components in wooden structures, furniture, or other fixtures.
Ensure all repairs meet building codes and safety standards.
Follow all safety regulations and protocols while operating tools and working on construction sites.
Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure the safe handling of materials.
Ensure compliance with local building codes, construction regulations, and best practices.
Work closely with other construction professionals, such as electricians, plumbers, and painters, to complete projects on time and to specifications.
Communicate effectively with site supervisors and project managers about progress, challenges, and material needs.
Skills & Experience
Minimum 2 years of experience required.
Graduation in any stream or equivalent.
Proven experience as a carpenter or in a related construction role.
Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and carpentry equipment.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and project plans.
Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and carpentry techniques.
